Why do we exist?

Portrait of a three educational assessors during an informal moment

The Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors is a professional body dedicated to supporting the needs of everyone involved in educational assessment.

We exist to provide support, recognition and professional representation for the assessment community.

"A professional body for examiners and assessors will help by providing wider recognition and understanding of their essential and important role, raising standards through structured support and professional development and encouraging more teachers, lecturers and other subject specialists to contribute to external examining and assessment" - Angela Leonard, Chair of Examiners

Our aims

We are dedicated to improving the quality of assessment. We aim to achieve this through developing the knowledge, capability and skills of everyone involved in the exams and testing system.

How we will do this

Over time we will develop a range of services to support both members of the Institute and non-members.

Beginning with a portfolio of membership services focusing on communication, networking and community-building, our role will be to bring together like-minded assessors, in actual and virtual forums, to enhance professional development, exchange ideas and share experiences.

A representative body

Eventually, we aim to work on behalf of our members to represent their views to stakeholders and government.

We will also co-ordinate research into assessment best practice, as well as develop models and tools to help make assessment roles more efficient and effective.
