External assessor case study

James has been a Team Leader examining for a major awarding body for five years and has joined the Institute to improve his skills in assessment. Internal assessor case study

Sarah has been a head of department in her local college for four years and has joined the Institute to improve her skills in assessment. She believes that the opportunity to share ideas and exchange experiences with other educational assessors at regional events has improved her knowledge and skills in assessment.

External assessor route to Member status

Member status is now available to senior examiners.

Experience - It is a pre-requisite for all applicants to have at least 3 years recent examining experience including at least one years' experience at Team Leader level or above.

Internal assessor route to Member status

Member status is available for eligible educational assessors based in places of learning.

Advice for individuals involved in both internal and external assessment

If you have both internal and external assessment experience it is recommended that you choose the above route relating to your most senior role. E.g. A teacher who is also a Principal Examiner would apply via the external assessor route to Member status.
